This weekend, being slightly annoyed that the website transfer is not going as smooth as hoped;
(I should state that it's not transferrin' at all),
Although the HamsterTracker™-Technical Department,
received an email, that it's AGAIN been transferred to their technical department!


HamsterTracker™ has been getting a lot of neat idea's
from the HamsterTracker™-Brain-Storm Department,
Ideas that ( Sadly ) can only be implemented on the NEW site...


So this weekend, packed with some gift certificates,
trying to take my mind off...

Update 21:30:



NO MORE POPUPS
at HamsterTracker.com !!!




I didn't really want to stop using http://webstats.motigo.com, (no linking here; it's not worth it!)
it's the slowest counting webcounter (only one count per minute per visitor)
I have been using it these last 10+ years, from Netstat.com to WebStats4u.com,
many takeovers have survived on HamsterTracker.com using this counter.

Today that has ended, so no more popups!


The drawback of using this service was (just after WebStats4u.com had taken over)
that a popup appeared as soon as you clicked on a link on the HamsterTracker™-page.

I've tried to develop some clever JavaScript stuff, to disable that,
unfortunately I failed!


Then today I received an URL of a popup and a complaint!
After checking the popup using the URL,
It took me .0003 seconds to remove the service from the website,
as well as another 32 minutes to send a severe complaint!

I am sorry fellow HamsterTracker™-Dudettes & -Dudes!
Also sorry, that I wasn't aware that these popups could be of such kind!

Updating Lucy
Lucy came out as soon as she saw me near her cage:

What should have been a three day job, and mostly an administrative exercise,
is taking much and much longer.


As you may know, the internet uses DNS-servers (Domain Name Servers) as a sort of telephonebook.
So whenever you enter an URL, these servers are contacted (behind the scenes) and they return an IP address.
An IP address could be considered as a phone-number, so using this address the internet knows where to find the specific computer
that hosts a certain website.


So when changing providers, while maintaining your website name, the DNS-servers have to be updated.
It's like getting a new telephone number.

To do so, you have prove that you're the original owner,
and the original provider supplies you with a key, to do so.


Then the mechanical process should to it's stuff, and presto!

Unfortunately there is a Hick-up Hiccup

Bonding with Lucy
Today is my second last day of a three week holiday!
I've used these last few weeks to relax and enjoy,
as well as getting to know Lucy a little better.


Well, as it seems, Lucy has so her ways with me too:

Which she got, ofcourse!


After Lucy's explorin' (20 minutes, timed using egg-cooker-timer),
Lucy and I had some fun on the couch (six-th time).

Lucy doesn't jump out of my hands anymore, whenever I try to pick her up.
She did in the beginning,
and using the couch as a safe environment for Lucy to be trained,
after three weeks, it's working!


Whenever I pick up Lucy now; she simply waits, for the next event, in my hands.
For good behaviour I gave Lucy some extra time on the couch:

Just before this, when Lucy was running in her bal,
I noticed Lucy's bathroom needed cleaning. (It smelled a bit)
So I did that without Lucy noticing...


After 'couch-training' I put Lucy back in her cage,
only for her to go into an immediate bathroom inspection:

The inner-geek...

After yesterdays 'bummer' (see below), I had a good night sleep after
having some fun with Lucy on the couch.
(Sorry no pictures; Lucy needs constant attention...
and I didn't want to take a risk of her getting hurt.)

So this morning, all refreshed and smiling, it came to me:

Sometimes you've gotta do, what you've gotta do!


Well, I overpaid the HamsterTracker™-Geek department today,
to go bezerk on the following little project.

Remember the HamsterTracker™ iButton Temperature Sensor (webserver)?
After playing around with it for more than a month,
I noticed the sensitivity of the temperature sensor.

When my hand comes within 5 cm (two inches) the sensor will register this!


So we at HamsterTracker™ need a:

HamsterTracker™ Modular iButton Network System

Using two modem-phone plugs; ( the one's you can extend by plugging more plugs in),
and using standard RJ-11 telephone cable. ( Didn't know you had that right? )


The HamsterTracker™-Geek Department came up with the following:

" The innards of Dutch Telephone connectors ( + iButton USB adapter)" - Geek

Bummer2!
Today was a bit of a 'bummer' (= bad day)
My favorite keyboard broke down today, after 11 years of service,
and I do need 'gettin' used' to the spare one...
Typing is not as smooth as on the old one.

I also got an email from my new provider,
regarding the transfer of HamsterTracker.com;
it somehow didn't transfer due to some technical difficulties.


So I've been, somewhat disappointed, sending emails to BOTH providers,
in the hope that this will resolve SOON!


Fortunately I have THE GREATEST HAMSTER in the galaxy!


(Braggin' here, I know;)

Third week and third time for Lucy in her Explorer Ball!
We are pretty busy here preparing for the actual provider switch;

It not only involves uploading HTML files to the new provider,
also an SQL database needs to be created as well as some scripts that have to be modified.


This doesn't let me interfere with me havin' fun with Lucy though.
So Lucy just experienced her third time in her Explorer Ball.
This time a full 20 minutes (I use an 'egg-cook-timer' to make sure I don't 'forget' )

Lucy didn't hesitate for a second,
When I held her Explorer Ball near her opened cage door.


She used my hand as a bridge to get into the ball.

Lucy has been runnin' in her treadmill for hours and hours...

Training Lucy!
Lucy has still some work to do in the
gettin' used to me department.


So a couple of times per day,
whenever she is awake,
I open the cage,
put my hand in... to give her a treat.
Hoping that this way, Lucy will get used to me very quickly.


Lucy still sleeps on the right of the treadmill,
and sometimes UNDER the treadmill.
She made a little nest of sawdust there.
So I don't have to look long to find her...

An AWESOME first week with Lucy!
Lucy has been with us for a week now,
and what a week it has been!


I've made it a morning ritual; giving Lucy a treat,
when I get up AND if she is awake!


Lucy has explored my hand many times now,
each time being rewarded with a pineseed or other treat.
And it is paying off...


Lucy isn't scared (anymore) whenever I open her cage,
and put my hand in.

Quality time with Lucy!
Lucy is still getting used to her new surroundings.
She is still in the process of getting to know her cage
(She only sleeps down-stairs... after only one night up-stairs),
and to knowing ME...


So after talkin' sweet to her for (quite) a while,
I carefully opened the cage,
to hand her a Wild Berry Drop.


I slowly moved my hand closer to her,
while explaining that I was gonna give her a treat...

She asked me if I would like to supervise, whatever that means ...
I wasn't sure about it,
after all I'm not even 6 weeks old yet and I have lots to learn.

But she seemed like a nice lady
and she said it would be perfectly okay
if I watched from inside my nice, clean, safe cage/home.

I need to remember to ask Mathijs

An AWESOME first day with Lucy
My fist day with Lucy has been a blast!


Lucy ran a whoppin' 2,666.06 meters in her treadmill,
in 6 hours 3 minutes and 52 seconds!

I guess it's her first time in a treadmill!


Lucy also drank an amazing 10 ml. of water!

I know she found her water supply

Lucy IS strugglin' a bit on her verbal skills


(Which is fully understandable ofcourse!)


She has to get used to
her new quarters,
my voice,
ME,
HamsterTracker™

So I am simply talking to her,
in the hope she'll get used to me as quickly as possible.


So I asked if she would like a Pine-seed:

" Dude, I don't know what a P-seed is... " - Lucy


So I responded with: "I think you'll like it... it's to eat!"

I did manage to handfeed her a pineseed,
an hour or so later !!!
Through the bars of the cage; so Lucy couldn't feel scared in any way.
Meanwhile, she gets to know me by smell! (Very important to hamsters!)
( She LOVED the Pine-Seed !!! btw. )

A little later, I asked again...

" NOT NOW PLEASE!
I am actually using this! " - Lucy


WOW! Potty-Trained instantly!

Introducin' Lucy 3.0!!!

With great joy and pride I can announce that Lucy 3.0,
has arrived at HamsterTracker™ !


She is a healthy 5 week old hamster, born may 23, 2007.


When I first saw her in the Hamster-Adoption-center,
she was pouching food as much as she could.
By the time I got my camera, Lucy was having a drink:

The hamster in the background was her baby-sitter for the last 3 hours.


So I put Lucy in her 'Transportation Module' (Huge plastic container, with a lid),
and strapped her in the front seat:

during our 20 minute trip home...
