Today I made some wonderfull pasta for myself,
I was enjoying it soo much, I had to come up with a Hamster version:
" Ingredients:
Cooked & cooled Pasta,
Cheese,
Parsley,
'Red Sweet Pepper' ( = PAPRIKA in Dutch).
Put the pasta in a circle like shape,
thereby making a 'bowl' of pasta.
" - Mathijs
Warning:
I checked, checked and re-checked on the internet,
to see if hamsters can have 'Red Sweet Pepper';
as it seems a lot of (Dutch) hamsters do.
I am not sure if I've got the translation of 'Red Sweet Peppers' right,
so check with your local petshop or hamster-expert, to see if your choice of veggie is the right one.
Please remember, your hamster will eat ANYTHING you'll feed it,
it's your responsibility to make it hamster-safe !
" Slice & dice some of your hamsters favorite veggies... " - Mathijs
" Then add some parsley, in a real 'Chefs'-Way ... " - Mathijs
" Don't forget some grated cheese, to top it off ! " - Mathijs
The Servin' of the Simple Pasta dish
" Dude, for me ?
It smells great ! " - Lucy
" NIIIIIIIce ! " - Lucy
" Chompin' like a real Italian ! " - HamsterTracker™-Observation Dept.
" ... " - Lucy
Way too nice, for Lucy to make a final remark.
It took Lucy less than three minutes to pouch it !

Cookin' 4 Lucy: Easy Cheese/Apple Rolls
|
|
Here's an easy recipe when in a hurry:
You'll need:
Cheese slicer.
Apple corer,
and Knife,
as well as:
Slice of the end of a bread,
Apple,
and Gouda cheese.
Cut out to rolls,
by cutting out four round pieces of bread,
using apple corer.
(This is a bit tricky, but with a bit of patience you'll manage)
Here's how you use a (typical Dutch) cheese slicer:
put on and carefully draw it towards you...
Almost there !
Having a thin slice of cheese, cut out a circle using apple corer ...
Using knife, cut out a slice of apple, and repeat the Apple-corer thing,
to obtain a circled slice of apple...
Then Stack...
and Pack

Serving Lucy the 'Easy Cheese/Apple Rolls'
|
|
Yesterday (see below) I showed you how I made some easy sandwiches for Lucy,
here's the servin' of it:
" Looks nice ! " HamsterTracker™-Observation Dept.
Then it happened:
" We've NEVER seen Lucy being this quick ! " HamsterTracker™-Observation Dept.
" Lucy took her Cheese roll to her bedroom in quite a hurry ! " HamsterTracker™-Observation Dept.
Finally we had some time to take a breather,
and try to get the camera in focus:
" Mmmm mmmm mmm " - Lucy
" There where TWO rolls right ? " - Lucy
So I setup the camera and waited:
" This should work ! " - HamsterTracker™-Photography Dept.
" Then this happened ... " - HamsterTracker™-Observation Dept.
I guess she loved them,
because I've never seen Lucy doing this,
in such great speeds...
Unfortunately photo-shoots CAN go wrong !
Fortunately, Lucy had a great snack !

I thought it would be nice for Lucy to enjoy a Veggie Taco;
Ingredients:
Bag of chopped ('chineese') veggies,
Tortillia Wraps
Grated Gouda cheese
Cut a circle out of Tortillia wraps,
using glass and knife.
Then cut another one,
using the same technique...
Select from the chopped vegtable bag the following hamster-safe veggies:
Carrot,
White Cabbage,
Bean Sprouts.
Finely dice the White Cabbage
As well as the carrot (and bean sprouts)
Serve on the Taco's
Add grated cheese,
using Gouda here...
Add a bit on each Taco.
Fold Taco's to complete.
TA DA!
(Using whiskey-glass as servin'-table, again) ...
The Servin' Is To Be Continued...

Here's Lucy enjoying it:
" Great taste, Dude ! " - Lucy
Now let's have a closer look:
" Can I really have BOTH ? " - Lucy
" Very, very ... nice ... nibble ... nibble ... " - Lucy
It took Lucy only a couple of minutes to
devour the first Taco;
" Dude, I want more ! " - Lucy
Then a split-second later
" I'd love to have that again, soon, Dude ! " - Lucy

Yesterday I showed on how I made a nice treat to pamper Lucy.
Here are the photographs of Lucy enjoying it:
" Is there Anchovy on this, Dude? " - Lucy
" Dunno where to start here... " - Lucy
" ... " - Lucy
I then explained Lucy that it's not the way to eat pizza,
you're not really supposed to eat all ingredients from the top,
you should take a bite from ALL of it...

Cooking 'r-Ice-Tea' for your hamster
|
In the series Cookin' 4 Lucy,
I cooked up this r-Ice-Tea recipe after my vet mentioned it is good stuff for hamsters.
You'll need:
- Small pan
- Cup (for measurements)
- Some kind of timer
- Stove
- Plain rice (not the fast cookin' kind)
- Water
Here are the steps involved:
Put half a cup of rice with two cups of water in a small pan.
Turn up the heat to MAX!
Wait for it to start cookin'
Then, turn down the heat
Place lid, leavin' a gap,
then set timer to 15 minutes
After 15 minutes, drain the r-Ice-Tea
r-Ice-Tea and some cooked Rice for your hamster
I put some r-Ice-Tea in a smaller glass to cool down
for 10 - 15 minutes in the refrigirator
Unfortunately I don't have photo's of Lucy actually drinking this.
I cooked this on day 680, the day that Lucy passed away.
I am looking forward to cook this up once again, but then, for Lucy 3.0

Apple-Sushi for Lucy
I've been cookin' it for Lucy, again...
The stuff you need:
(washed) Apple,
Cooked rice,
Knife,
(Apple) corer.
Cut a slice from apple
Admire, work done so far.
Use (apple-) corer to make a hole
(Optional: Admire again!)
Cut of edges to make an apple-cilinder
The apple-like-sun is for your own enjoyment!
Fill with (cooked and cooled) rice
In close up
In close up, up side down
About to serve... But wait Lucy's cage is a mess...
Cleaning it up before the serving...
Please understand that this isn't even close to real sushi.
It's inspired on the real sushi, (the ones with fresh fish, shrimp and/or vegetables together with rice inside, surrounded by some special sort of sea-weed).
I love the real stuff soo much, that I needed to make a variant for Lucy!

Serving Lucy her Apple-Sushi
After making Apple-sushi for Lucy, see yesterday below, I needed to clean her cage;
(Lucy was in her Explorer ball when I cleaned it!)
Also note the barcode on her treadmill that is used by the HamsterTracker™ system.
Is this a little prayer, before the big dinner? Or is Lucy chewing on a bit of rice?
" Must put it away...
Must put it away...
Must put it away...
Must put it away...
Must put it away... "

Yoghurt served in a Cucumber bowl
Here's some more,
Cookin' for Lucy
Cut out a small bowl out of a cucumber
Carefully fill with yoghurt
Clean up the mess...
Serve:
mmmmm... - Lucy
Lucy didn't really like the yoghurt, but loves the cucumber!
She took a bite out of the side of the cucumber bowl, spilling yoghurt all over her paws, cage etc.
Very funny to watch, sorry no pictures, too busy laughing.
I noticed that she took quite a while cleaning her paws, maybe secretly liking the taste of yoghurt.
I guess another cookin' for Lucy well done!

HOWTO: Make Micro-Burgers for your hamster
I've been thinking about this for quite some time now. And I finally decided to give it a go.
Today I bought an apple corer (€ 1.59). That makes the following recipe easier to create:
Ingredients; (fresh-) Bread, (cooked-) Ham, (Gouda-) Cheese and a small bit of fresh parsley.
Use Apple Corer to cut out two round pieces of bread:
Do the same with a single (thinly) slice(d) piece of ham:
Use a bit of parsley (for the green stuff) and stack it all carefully:
Optionally you can add some cheese (If you desire Micro-Cheeseburgers):
Stack it carefully:
Ready for serving!
I hope that my littl' Lucy likes it, right now she's still sleeping...
Costs if you don't like ham & cheese sandwiches, and if you make only one Micro-burger:
- Apple corer: € 1.59
- Half a loaf of Bread: : € 0,63
- Gouda cheese: € 1.70
- Cooked Ham: € 2.12
Total: € 6.04 or € 4.45 if you already have an apple corer.
I've decided not to include this on Lucy's Expenses, simply because I don't mind a ham & cheese sandwich with a few holes!

Therefore, sadly, not all photographs are in focus...

Once Lucy noticed, she came runnin'
This is a split second before she had a bite
This is a split second later!
YES! Lucy loves it!
I will do this again!

'Cooking' up flowers for Lucy
Because you have to surprise your loved one, once in a while, I decided to do some culunairy cookin' Ahummm
The recipe is simple:
- Wash apple and some fresh parsley
- Cut out a piece of apple, preferably dice shaped. And don't use a large knife! like I did. Ask help if you're under 40!
- Use a toothpick to punch a small hole in the apple
- Place parsley in the just made hole
- Serve immediately! (So the apple is still fresh)
Lucy loved it, as you can see!
