Geeking it over here at HamsterTracker™ is 99% of the time a very enjoyable time.
That's when things don't go all heywire beyound our control:
This weekend I experienced some many seemingly spontanious server crashes.
I wasn't gaming or doing anything Video-Intensive stuff,
just some programming, when it crashed again...
(Un)fortunately the system didn't reboot again...
After initialization (which seemed to take forever),
the system responded with a Three Beep Error salute ...
Which is NOT a GOOD sign ...
because: it then FROZE ! No life in it what so ever ...
Then I heard a loud distinct 'CLUNCK'-noise ...
The computer was already switched off...
So I opened it ... The heat comming from it was noticed immediately.
Then I found a square piece of something:
" Note the Ferrite (?) square ... that dropped of the spool,
surrounded by browned circuit board ... " - Mathijs
" Looks a bit like it exploded, doesn't it? " - HamsterTracker™-Observation Dept.
" This is the way it should be fitted ... " - Mathijs
Unfortunately I touched the Ferrite (?) cubed-block,
too quickly after hearing the 'CLUNCK', finding it on the bottom of the Dream-Machine:
" OUCH!!!
I put my finger under cold running water for minutes ...
It still didn't prevent these 2nd degree burns... " - Mathijs
" You can also see a nice square like impression " - HamsterTracker™-Observation Dept.
I am so glad that I was there when it happened.
The discoloring of the circuit board, makes you wonder what could have happened...
After removing the faulty card, I had two running in 'SLI-mode',
it just needed a few reboots, and now it's up and running again ... Pffffew !
" This final breakdown, might explain
the slow-downs we have been experiencing
these last couple of days " - HamsterTracker™-Hardware Dept.
Fortunately, Lucy didn't notice a thing:
" zzz ... ZZZ ... zzz ... " - Lucy
Pffffeeew, what an experience!
